European Market – December 2023

European Market – December 2023

Inland: Fuel price fluctuations are driving slight increases in inland transportation. As of 12/01/2023, Germany will enforce toll hikes, impacting pickups in the region.

Maritime DRY: Cosco has reduced maritime freight rates for Rotterdam-origin lanes. Meanwhile, Maersk has lowered rates and is keen on firm business quotes and contracts. MSC has also made slight reductions from November’s rates.

Maritime Reefer: We’ve observed a slight uptick in freight levels. Both Cosco and Maersk are showing greater flexibility in negotiations, welcoming new targets. It’s important to note that due to the offseason, there’s a shortage of reefer equipment in Europe, expected to normalize by December.

Additional Insights: Starting 12/01/2023, carriers advise prepayment for local destination charges and maritime freight for shipments headed to Argentina.

Come January 1, 2024, the ETS (EU Emissions Trading System) levy will come into effect, aimed at limiting CO2 emissions from industries. Each carrier will communicate their specific fee upon the release of 2024 freight updates.

Stay tuned for further updates!”
